COUNCILLOR RALPH ROBERTSON'S REPLY TO NETHERLEE PARKING REVIEW DELAY

25 August

From Councillor Ralph Robertson to ERC regarding the Traffic Regulations' Review including Parking (25th August 2014) :-

I am extremely annoyed that Thornliebank will be reviewed before Netherlee. For 18 months the residents of Netherlee have been very patient and suffered not being able to park outside their houses. This has resulted in extremely long distances to find a suitable parking place in adjacent streets which are already short of parking. They then have to negotiate young children and shopping to their houses.

The residents were always under the impression that Netherlee would come after Clarkston, Giffnock and Barrhead. This was what we were told at meetings we had with councillors, residents committee members and the roads dept. The residents have been very understanding  that these areas have had shops struggling so needed to be done first.

To say it was always the intention to do Thornliebank as it was part of the Giffnock review had never been mentioned at any meeting I have attended. Thornliebank Main Street is over 1 mile from Fenwick Road Giffnock. You could argue that Netherlee is about 1 mile from Clarkston and also has shops so why was it not part of that review.

I think the residents of Netherlee have been at best extremely badly informed and will feel completely let down by the council.

Cllr Ralph Robertson
